  • Botanical Toners

Face toner is applied to the skin after cleansing and before moisturizing. Toners are used to help balance the pH of the skin, remove any remaining traces of dirt, oil, and makeup, and prepare the skin for the next steps in a skincare routine. There are a number of potential benefits to using a face toner: pH balancing: Face toners can help to balance the pH of the skin, which can be disrupted by cleansing and environmental factors. A balanced pH is important for maintaining the skin's natural barrier function and preventing irritation. Deep cleansing: Face toners can help to remove any remaining traces of dirt, oil, and makeup that may not have been fully removed during cleansing. Hydration: Some face toners contain hydrating ingredients, such as glycerin or aloe vera, which can help to moisturize and nourish the skin. Prepping the skin: Face toners can help to prepare the skin for the next steps in a skincare routine by removing excess oil and minimizing the appearance of pores. Why Should I use a Toner? Toners are meant to be used after cleansing. They were recommended for restoring your skins pH level after the alkalizing effects of soap, but because we are looking at water-based toners, this effect isn’t relevant. Your skin will naturally restore it’s own pH level. The main benefit of using a toner is to help repair and restore your skin’s surface. You have just cleansed it and now your skin is hungry. It is time to feed it nourishing ingredients, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Your skin can’t get enough. A good facial toner can help provide your skin with what it needs to look younger, fresher and smoother. Botanical toners are a unique blend of natural botanicals to instantly hydrate and tone the skin. These properties also improve skin tone by refining the appearance of pores, reducing puffiness and tightening the skin. Aloe Vera Exfoliates and hydrates the skin. Our core values are built on our commitment to provide pure, clean and "green" natural products with the highest qualitative standards in mind. Our products are handcrafted in small batches using high-quality ingredients that are organic, locally wildcrafted ethically sourced from U.S. based suppliers and organic farmers. We are dedicated to our process and oversee every step in the product lifecycle from ingredient sourcing, formulating, packaging and exchange. Our brand is Pure, Natural and Handcrafted. Our Ingredients Our ingredients are what we are made of GROWING The bulk of natural ingredients are grown from our garden. We grow roses, cucumber, lavender, chamomile, calendula, sun flowers, daisies, peppermint, spearmint, rosemary, lemongrass, lemon balm, basil, purple coneflower, aloe vera, carrots, turmeric, pumpkin... and other seasonal botanicals. Check out our garden album. WILDCRAFTING Practicing sustainable wild collection practices, a modest amount of natural ingredients come from local wildcrafting. Depending on the season, nature gifts us with nettle, fennel, burdock, dandelion, red clover, plaintain, elder, daylillies, chickweed and juneberries. SOURCING For our sourced ingredients, we give just as much thought and consideration in finding and building relationships with trusted providers -- favorability given to local artisans, farmers and suppliers. We make every effort to source from natural renewable sources and make continuous effort in maintaining quality and purity control. Our Formula Formulated simple, clean and natural The foundation of our brand is products made from simple botanical based formulas. No matter the process, every botanical ingredient is used for their benefit in our formulations. Hydrosols Our hydrosols are steam distilled from fresh plant material without separating the essential oil from the cellular water captured. As a result, our aromatic hydrosols contain the water-soluble active principles of the plant and roughly 0.10% of the essential oil compounds. Our Botanical Toners are formulated using 70% of our organic floral hydrosol blended with our garden aloe vera and certified organic witch hazel supplied by trusted artisan distillers. Botanical Extracts in Infused Oil and Glycerites We make our own herb-infused oils using the “folk” method of herbal extracting which relies on the sun to naturally infuse oil with herbal properties. We immerse dried herbs and flower petals into fractionated (MCT) coconut oil and steep in sunlight for 4-8 weeks, depending on the botanical used. Our glycerites (glycerin extracts) are made immersing dried herbs and flower petals in organic vegetable glycerin and agitated daily for about 6 weeks. Most recipes call for a 75% glycerine to 25% water ratio, however, we use 100% glycerin with our dried botanicals. We use oil infusions and glycerites for our salves, soaps, lip balms, creams and oil blends. Our Rose Petal Salve for example, is a formulation of our rose infused-oil, rosehip seed oil, rose absolute essential oil, Vitamin E and beeswax. Botanicals Additives and Powders We dry our botanicals and utilize every part of the plant for different processes. Flowers and herbs are gently separated by hand for larger uses such as our bath teas and bath salts. We further grind botanicals and seeds to use as a finer ingredient such as an exfoliating property in our soaps. For natural additives and colorants, we further break down dried flowers, herbs, vegetables and roots into powders. Our Story Twisted Garden existed long before it was established in 2020. Twisted Garden's recipes have a long history with our gardener, formulator and co-founder, Kelly Rock. Kelly grew up in a household where gardening for food and herbal remedies was a lifestyle which she fully adopted as an adult for her own family and friends. As time allowed and by word of mouth, Kelly offered botanical remedies to local customers for decades as she balanced her family and her career as a Software Architect. Finally, after years dreaming about growing and handcrafting natural products full-time -- she launched Twisted Garden with her husband. As a team, Kelly and Robert dedicate their time and passion into growing a family business on a farm in North Carolina.
